Welcome

The Aim of this site

The aim of penaltyfareappeal.co.uk is to support and assist you through the process of appealing against your recently issued penalty fare. Please not that were are not an official processor of Penalty Fare appeals.

How will we do this?

The site is run by ex-revenue protection employees who together have over 70 years experience working in revenue protection area of the rail industry. We have dealt with all type of issues that occur with penalty fares and the rules behind issuing and  revoking a penalty fare notice.

We will require you to send us a copy of the penalty fare notice that you have been issued and a detailed explanation of the events up to and including when the notice was being issued. Every detail is important and should not be over exaggerated and a true account of the facts of the day. The penalty fare appeals board has dealt with a vast number of appeals and will be able to decide the true facts of the matter as nowadays most stations/trains will have CCTV.

Self service ticket machines are linked into a central control on most of the rail network which log when a machine is out of service and what types of payment the machine was accepting at the time of your attempt to purchase a valid ticket for your journey.

This is why a true account of the facts is important for your appeal.

How do I send you a copy of my penalty fare notice?

You can use the contact button at the top of the website. Filling out the details required and attaching either a scanned copy of your penalty fare notice or a clear photograph image of your penalty fare notice.

Please note that we need clear images of the notice as we will be able to notice any mistakes made by the authorised collector.

If you are unable to send a copy of your penalty fare notice, you will need to provide a very detailed explanation of what happened on the day so we can recommend what you should mention in your appeal letter.

Remember the sooner you contact us the better chance you have of us being able to help you. You have 21 days from the date of issue to appeal against the notice. The sooner you contact us the sooner you can get the ball rolling on your appeal.

How much does this cost?

We would like to suggest a small donation to the site for looking into your Penalty Fare and helping you with the documentation and producing an appeal.

We would like to recommend a small donation of around £4 which will be used for the upkeep of our servers and the maintenance of the software which is used to run this site.

What does it cost the Train Operation Company when you appeal?

The appeals bodies charge the TOC for EVERY Penalty Fare that is appealed regardless of the outcome of the appeal. This charge is around £8 per appeal, so just by appealing against a Penalty Fare you cut down on the revenue the TOC actually gets from the Penalty Fare you were issued!
